Bring your family research together

GEDCOM is a file format used to exchange family-tree information between genealogy programs.

Direct GEDCOM import is not available on this page yet. In the meantime, prepare your file and supporting notes so your research is ready to review.

Before importing a file

  • Keep an unchanged backup of your original tree.
  • Check names, dates, places and source citations.
  • Remove or restrict private details about living people.
  • Note the genealogy software and export settings used.
  • Identify duplicate people and uncertain relationships for review.

A file transfer alone does not establish that two family lines are connected.

Shared sources, stronger research

No shared resource entries have been published here yet. As material becomes available, look for source details that make each finding easy to trace.

Original records

For certificates, census entries and other records, retain the archive reference and explain where the original can be consulted.

Research notes

Include the question you investigated, the records you checked and any gaps that remain.

Family material

For letters, photographs and family accounts, note who holds the material and any permissions needed to share it.

Your research may connect a branch.

Identify the family line, explain what your sources show and note what remains uncertain. Even a well-framed question can help another researcher move forward.
